Product description

The Mei Tai baby carrier model from Chimparoo is very popular with parents because of its simple principle, its comfort and its ergonomics!

Description

The Chimparoo Mei Tai baby carrier is the perfect compromise between the baby carrier and structured baby carriers such as the TREK or MULTI 2.0 models. It is often called a hybrid. It is as suitable for a man as a woman. It has both an urban and natural look. The Mei Tai is made with the same flexible and light fabric of the woven scarf which gives it the comfort, the support and the softness of the scarf. It is light and easy to use. It takes up very little space in a bag and requires very little instruction. It is perfectly suited for needs at home but can also be used very well outdoors. Its long straps allow it to adjust to all sizes but also to install it over a coat.

The word Mei tai refers to a category of Asian-inspired baby carriers. It is pronounced Mé Taï and means in Chinese (Cantonese); Mei: is worn on the shoulders and Tai: band to tie. There are hundreds of different versions of Mei Tai around the world. It is made up in all cases of a central piece of fabric which allows the baby to sit there, of a belt which attaches around the waist and of two straps which attach in multiple ways and adapt to all sizes. The Chimparoo Mei Tai differs from other Mei tai models for several elements; soft cross-twill fabric, side adjustment system to wrap a newborn, seat width reduction strap for comfort suitable for babies under 2-3 months, adjustable head support and padding under the baby's thigh, suspenders and belt. All its adaptations make it adapt perfectly to a newborn. It is a baby carrier that can be used as long as it can be supported. It is certified to be used with a baby between 7 and 35 lbs.

Directions for Use

The Mei Tai has widened straps at the ends to wrap the baby like a scarf and its flexible structure without rigid accessories offers a more natural feeling. It allows you to place the baby in 4 carrying positions; either sitting on the wearer's stomach, hip or back and also sitting but facing the world.

Wear sit on stomach

  1. The two sides are tightened using the cords. When the strings are pulled, the sides close and hold and envelop the newborn baby, whose legs are folded inside. They are no longer used when the legs are extended on each side. With the horizontal cord that reduces the width of the seat, these adjustments allow you to create a small pouch that perfectly wraps the newborn.
  2. To reduce the height of the main panel, turn the belt half a turn. In this way, the Mei Tai adapts perfectly to the size of the baby.
  3. Place the belt high enough on your waist, below the chest. Her buttocks will be a little lower than the belt, at your waist. Sit the baby against you with your knees up like a little frog. Then raise the panel against its back.
  4. Pass the straps over each of your shoulders, always keeping one hand on the baby.
  5. Cross them on the back and pass each of the straps through the straps on each side towards the back to add support to the back. Tie a knot in your back or come back in front if you still have enough straps.

Carry on the hip

  1. Refer to the demonstration of knotting with the Mei-Tai in front to clearly see the adjustments of the pocket with the rope blockers. So form a small pocket according to the size of your baby. Then place the place of the Mei-Tai against you on your hip and tie the belt with a double knot around your waist.
  2. Place the baby, belly against you, knees up and apart according to his tolerance, against your waist. It is important that his knees are well supported upwards.
  3. For a newborn baby, simply leave his legs inside, folded in on themselves, as in the fetal position.
  4. Fold the fabric over the baby by pulling each strap upwards tight enough to keep the baby close to you, at a comfortable height while keeping its back well rounded.
  5. Always keeping one hand to hold the baby securely, with the other hand, place the strap in front of you on the opposite shoulder.
  6. With the same hand, come and get the other strap behind your back, keeping it as high as possible under your arm.
  7. Keeping the strap tight in your hand, come and hold the baby securely to release the other hand.
  8. Now that you hold the baby securely and that you have released the hand on the baby's side, take the strap that went over your opposite shoulder behind your back. Pull it very hard by positioning the baby at a good height, legs well raised and back supported.
  9. Hold the two straps securely. Pull until you get the position and comfort you want.
  10. Cross the straps under the buttocks before passing them over the other hip. When the baby is older, iron under the knees. In this way, the straps that pass under the knees will allow better support. Take care, however, that they do not over-tighten the legs. Tie a knot on one side or the other depending on the length of the straps.
  11. You can also attach the straps to the baby's back.

Carry on the back

We recommend the position on the back from around 3-6 months or when your baby is able to support his head or sit well. Plan to have someone to help you the first few times. Always be careful.

After performing the manipulations on the back, first with a doll and then without the baby carrier, you can now try the technique that is best suited for you.

  1. Place the place of Mei-Tai against you on your back.
  2. Attach the belt with a double knot around your waist.
  3. Check that the Mei Tai is centered on your back before placing the baby there.
  4. Place your baby on your back.
  5. Always keep one hand on the baby and do not hesitate to ask for the help of another person to ensure the safety of your baby.
  6. Fold the fabric over the baby by pulling each strap upwards tight enough to keep the baby close to you, at a comfortable height while keeping its back well rounded.
  7. Pass the straps over each of your shoulders and hold them securely in front of you. Pull until you get the position and comfort you want.
  8. The baby's arms can be placed below or above the straps according to his age and comfort. It is possible to adjust the height of the baby carrier so that it supports the head or so that the child can extend his arms. You simply have to tie the higher waist belt around you or roll the belt around the baby carrier to reduce the length.
  9. There are several ways to attach the shoulder straps. We suggest 3. The first two, you put the straps around your shoulders like a backpack.
  10. The first way, you cross the straps under the baby's buttocks and come back to tie the knot in front of your waist after passing under the baby's legs.
  11. The second way, instead of making a knot on your waist, you iron each strap around the straps to stabilize the shoulders and increase the support. You bring the ends together to tie them above your chest.
  12. The third way, you cross the straps in front of your chest before bringing them behind. You can also cross the fabric over the baby's bottom before coming back to tie the knot in front of you.

To face the world

  1. When placing your baby facing the world, always be careful about the position of his legs and pelvis. The pelvis tilted well, the knees are higher than his buttocks and the fabric supports the entire leg of the baby, creating a wide seat.
  2. The legs can be folded inside, but be careful while the straps close the sides well so that the baby does not fall to the side.
  3. The baby will be more comfortable with a very wide seat. The legs out, he has the legs going up forward. It is rather large and bulky. You may have been used to seeing legs hanging with baby carriers on the market for a long time, but know that now, with current knowledge on hip development, it is recommended and completely safe and comfortable to place the legs as well.
  4. To tie the knot, pass the straps through the straps on each side and choose one of the following two options. Either you attach the straps in front of the baby by first passing under the arms or you come back to make your knot in the back.

Delicate wash with warm water. Hang to dry or tumble at medium temperature. Do not iron the padded straps. Avoid washing it with light colored items.
